Verb pairs like borrow/lend, come/go, and remind/remember can be tricky for English learners.
對于英語學(xué)習(xí)者來說，像borrow借/lend貸、come來/go去、remind提醒/remember記憶這樣的動詞對可能很棘手。
The verbs "remind" and "remember" both involve recalling something.
動詞 "remind"和 "remember"都涉及回憶一些事情。
But there is a clear difference in meaning.
但在含義上有明顯的不同。
And they have different sentence structures.
而且它們有不同的句子結(jié)構(gòu)。
"Remember" means to keep a person or thing in your mind or to bring a person or thing back to your mind.
"Remember"的意思是把一個(gè)人或一件事留在你的腦海里，或者把一個(gè)人或一件事帶回你的腦海里。
Think of "remember" as the opposite of "forget."
把"remember"看成是"forget"的反義詞。
Listen to some examples:
請聽下面幾個(gè)例子：
I just remembered I left the water on.
我剛想起來我沒關(guān)水龍頭。
Remember to bring a lock to store your belongings.
記得帶把鎖來存放你的物品。
In the first example, notice that "remember" is followed by a clause.
在第一個(gè)例子中，注意 "remeber"后面是一個(gè)分句。
In the second, it is followed by an infinitive, also known as to + verb.
在第二個(gè)例子中，它的后面是一個(gè)不定式，也被稱為to+動詞。
"Remember" can also be followed by a noun that ends in -ing,
"Remember"也可以跟在以-ing結(jié)尾的名詞后面，
as in "I remember leaving the water on."

Now, let's talk about "remind."

"Remind" means to cause someone else to remember something.
"Remind"的意思是使別人記住某些東西。
In other words, a person can make sure someone else does not forget something.
換句話說，一個(gè)人可以確保別人不忘記某事。
Listen to an example:

Can you remind him to buy more cat food?
你能提醒他多買些貓糧嗎？
We ran out.

When we use "remind" this way, the verb is followed by an object.
當(dāng)我們這樣使用 "remind"時(shí)，動詞的后面是一個(gè)賓語。
In this case, the object is "him."

Another way we use "remind" is to say that a similarity causes us to think of someone or something.
我們使用 "remind"的另一種方式是說，一種相似性使我們想到某人或某事。
Listen to an example:

That actor reminds me so much of my brother.

They have the same eyes and laugh.

When we use "remind" this way, we always include the word "of."
